Montréal, May 10, 2012 – The Board of Montréal Museum Directors announces its eagerly awaited annual celebration: Montréal Museums Day (MMD), to be held on Sunday, May 27. Presented by QUEBECOR, in co-operation with the Société de transport de Montréal (STM), this 26th MMD will leave from the Promenade des Artistes in the Quartier des spectacles. Shuttle buses running on five routes specially designed for the event will take visitors to the 29 participating museums. Admission is free of charge all day, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Montreal, September 20, 2011 — A survey conducted amongst the 38 member-museums of the Board of Montreal Museum Directors (BMMD) reveals that the majority of Montreal museums are chronically underfunded, a situation which immediately threatens both their employees and activities. Conducted in the wake of the Société des musées québécois (SMQ)'s États généraux des musées du Québec scheduled for October, this survey, in which 25 of the 38 museums participated, reveals how this chronic underfunding is a major concern of the Montreal museum community.

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) is pleased to learn that Quebec’s Finance Minister, Raymond Bachand, announced in his 2011-2012 budget today that the government is granting $6,375,000 in additional funding to the Museum, which will enable it to complete construction of its new Pavilion of Quebec and Canadian Art.
The initial cost of this project had to be revised to take into account the improvements made by the MMFA, including expansion of a large underground gallery that will connect the Museum’s four pavilions and will be used to display works by Riopelle, Molinari, Archambault, Mc Ewen to name a few. As well, following an exceptional donation from the Bourgie family after the initial funding was granted, notably by the Quebec government, the Museum decided to add a 450-seat concert hall, including a rehearsal room, artists’ dressing rooms and an orchestra pit.

The 32nd edition of the “Montréal à l’oeil” photo contest, entitled “Montréal postcard”, has drawn to a close with the crowning of its new winners. In partnership with Tourisme Montréal, this special edition invited photo enthusiasts to submit the “postcard” image of Montréal that they felt best captured the city’s spirit.
